To the Editor:—
The corniculate cartilages are commonly and wrongly referred to as the arytenoid cartilages. This common misconception is well illustrated by the labeling of the figure on the cover of the May 2005 issue of Anesthesiology and its accompanying article.1The bilateral spherical bulges at the five o’clock and seven o’clock positions on the most proximal part of the laryngeal aperture are the corniculate cartilages,2not the arytenoid cartilages.
