Utilization of vasopressors and ino tropes in cardiac surgery were derived from published data from 3 hospitals in Denmark1 and 55 hospitals in the United States,2 extracted from national registries in each country and representing 5,975 patients combined who underwent cardiac surgery. The Denmark cohort included patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting, valve-surgery, combinations, and thoracic aortic procedures from January 2007 to December 2008. The United States cohort included high-risk patients for coronary artery bypass grafting and valve-surgery combinations from January 2004 to June 2005.
