The 2014 Nicholas M. Greene, M.D. Award for Outstanding Humanitarian Contribution was presented to Dr. Lena E. Dohlman during the ANESTHESIOLOGYTM 2014 annual meeting in New Orleans. Dr. Dohlman was honored for her many contributions to education in low-income countries, including 27 years of service to Health Volunteers Overseas (www.hvousa.org) In these years, she completed nine overseas assignments, served as the program director for an anesthesia project in South Africa from 2009-12 and was a member of the HVO Anesthesia Steering Committee from 1997-2012.

Dr. Dohlman has given generously of her time and energy and opened a world of opportunity for many young professionals. Mirroring the career of Dr. Greene, for whom the award is named, Lena had committed her career to educating others, both within the U.S. and overseas. And like Dr. Greene, Dr. Dohlman has quietly influenced so many others through her example and passion....
