ASA has a long history of support for the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology (WLM–1987), the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF–1985), the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER–1986), the Anesthesia Foundation (1984), the Anesthesia Quality Institute (AQI–2008) and the ASA Charitable Foundation (2011). Many of the missions of these organizations date much further back than the incorporation as foundations (501c3) with either an ASA committee or other charitable work. Each of these foundations has a unique mission, vision, programs and initiatives that satisfy different needs of our members and our specialty.

Based on the history compiled by the late Patrick Sim (Paul M. Wood Distinguished Librarian), ASA has evaluated its relationship with its foundations at least five times in the last 26 years.
