The stated mission of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia is “to continually advance the safety and quality of anesthetic care, perioperative management and alleviation of pain in children.” Founded in 1986, membership currently stands at 3,227. Official sections, the Congenital Cardiac Anesthesia Society and Society for Pediatric Pain Management, comprise 1,133 and 700 members, respectively. Both sections have experienced rapid membership growth, which is testimony to the need they meet for outstanding education and collaboration within these pediatric subspecialty areas. To date, 2,733 anesthesiologists have successfully passed the ABA Pediatric Anesthesiology Board examination, which was introduced in October 2013.

At SPA’s annual meeting in San Diego last year, three young scientists were announced as inaugural recipients of SPA Young Investigator Research Grants.
