Over the past 30 years, the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research (FAER) has transformed people, patient care and, through the discovery and application of new scientific knowledge, the clinical practice of anesthesiology. This transformation has been initiated in large part by FAER’s research grant program, which since 1986 has enabled the anesthesiology community and ASA membership to commit more than $34 million through more than 530 awards.

FAER’s new president and CEO, James Eisenach, M.D., discusses in his article on page 32 that this funding has translated to advances in patient care and innovations in the specialty. It has resulted in more than $448 million in NIH funding awarded to former FAER grant recipients.
