What an incredibly important and energizing year for advocacy! This tremendous energy was clearly evident at LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE 2016, held on May 15-17 at the Hyatt Regency Washington Capitol Hill. With a record-breaking attendance of more than 600 ASA members, this year’s event offered new perspectives and challenges that impact our patients and our specialty at both the state and federal levels.
LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE 2016 featured presentations from experts on a variety of topics and skills of importance to physician anesthesiologists. The Interactive Workshop on State Advocacy opened the meeting and highlighted a variety of legislative and regulatory issues that affect ASA members at the state level. In addition to special skill-based presentations focused on developing traits to engage state and local lawmakers, attendees learned about current legislation in several states pertaining to out-of-network payment and the practice of certified anesthesiologist assistants (CAAs).
