Evan D. Kharasch, M.D., Ph.D., Chair, ASA Committee on Research, has announced that the committee will award prizes for the following two entries in the 2017 ASA Residents’ Research Essay Contest:

Austin J. Peters, M.D., from Oregon Health & Science University, for “Ketamine Alters Hippocampal Cell Proliferation After Traumatic Brain Injury and Improves Learning in Mice.”

Carmen A. Pfortmueller, M.D., from the Medical University of Vienna, for “Effects of 0.9% Saline Versus an Acetate Buffered Crystalloid Solute on the Necessity of Vasopressor Support in Patients Undergoing Abdominal Surgery: A Prospective, Randomized, Controlled, Double-Blind Study.”

Winners receive a plaque and cash award to acknowledge their achievements. The first-place winner will give a five-minute presentation during the Celebration of Research on Monday, October 23, 2017, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center as well as each individual presentation scheduled...
