With overdose deaths on the rise, the opioid and heroin epidemic has gained much attention over the last year. Yet ASA has been working to find ways to address the epi-demic for the last several years. Much of this work is centered around collaboration with others – medical and professional organizations, federal agencies and the administration. Recent activities with ASA partners are highlighted below.

ASA is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) Opioid Task Force, which was formed in late 2014 and is composed of more than 25 national, state and other health care associations that are committed to identifying ways to combat the opioid epidemic.
