As we come to the close of 2018, the ASA State Affairs Department continues to work with state component societies on their pending legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts and prepare for upcoming 2019 initiatives. This year, the State Affairs team reviewed more than 2,000 pieces of legislation and at least 1,200 proposed regulations to assist state component societies as they work to protect patient safety in each state. Moving into 2019, State Affairs will continue to monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory activity across the country. While we maintain focus on our traditional issue areas, we will also be mindful of emerging issues of importance to our physician leaders.
