The drug shortages we have all experienced so far this year remind me of the need to deepen our partnerships with both legislators and regulators as we continue our advocacy as physician anesthesiologists. I was inspired by my colleagues, as professional citizens, who attended LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE 2018 with me in Washington, D.C. on May 14-16 at the Hyatt Regency Washington Capitol Hill. With more than 600 ASA members present, this year’s conference was another chance for us to advocate for our patients and celebrate our successes.
LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE 2018 featured presentations of several topics of continued and time-sensitive importance to physician anesthesiologists and our patients. The Interactive Workshop on State Advocacy covered four different topics recently addressed at the state level as well as how best to approach lawmakers. In addition, we held a session to discuss responsible approaches and tactics for communicating on social media.
