The Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA) Spring meeting was held in Louisville, Kentucky, from April 20-22, 2018. The meeting was memorable for having two nationally known speakers offer their perspectives on medical professionalism. The keynote address was given by Thomas J. Nasca, M.D., MACP, Chief Executive Officer of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The afternoon plenary session was given by David H. Chestnut, M.D., who presented the Emery A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture at the ASA annual meeting in 2016.

Dr. Nasca gave an engaging and scholarly account of the philosophical traditions underpinning the American conceptualization of medicine as a profession and of professionalism.
