I am truly honored to have been asked to write this article on behalf of FAER after the first annual FAER Mentored Research Training Grant (MRTG) meeting held this year in Washington, D.C. This was a fantastic opportunity to see some of my fellow FAER alumni, meet the new recipients of the various awards offered by FAER to promising new investigators, and learn from the experiences of some of the most prominent leaders in our specialty.
FAER played a foundational role in my personal career as a physician scientist. Prior to starting my residency, I concluded Ph.D. studies in basic neuroscience as a part of the combined M.D. Ph.D. program.
