Diversity means a variety of things to different people. As physicians, we have a strong grasp and understanding of science. It is through science that we can better understand the importance of diversity. Biodiverse ecosystems are healthy and thrive because of the interactions of its members. Think of the ASA as its own ecosystem. We depend on each other and when we agree and work together toward a common cause, we thrive. Take for example the VA nursing handbook issue a couple years back. Together, we secured a healthy future for our patients.

When we think about diversity in our organization, we are reminded of discussions regarding political candidates.
