The Society of Academic Associations of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (SAAAPM) is composed of four organizations: the Association of Academic Anesthesiology Chairs (AAAC), the Association of Anesthesiology Core Program Directors (AACPD), the Association of Anesthesiology Subspecialty Program Directors (AASPD) and the Association of Anesthesiology Program Administrators and Educators (AAPAE). Each group has a unique role in ensuring the future of academic anesthesiology and, in many respects, defining our specialty. Each fall the society holds a distinctive annual meeting where the four groups meet separately to discuss issues germane to their area of expertise on the first meeting day. The entire group meets together on the second day to discuss topics of importance to all of academic anesthesiology.
