I have had the honor and privilege of serving as the chair of the Pain Management Best Practices Inter-Agency Task Force (Task Force) and as the Chief Medical Officer at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Both roles have been part of an effort that holds promise for improving care for millions of patients across the U.S.

As an anesthesiologist and pain physician, I am proud to share that on May 30, 2019, the Task Force provided its final report, “Pain Management Best Practices Inter-Agency Task Force Report: Updates, Gaps, Inconsistencies, and Recommendations,” to Congress, federal agencies and the public.
