This year we are introducing a new honor – The ASA-SEA Distinguished Educator Award. It is designed to recognize anesthesiologist educators in mid-career as a way of saying thank you for all they do for the profession, and for both ASA and SEA. It will also prove useful for those seeking promotion to associate professor.

A little over a year ago, Michael Sandison, M.D., President of the Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA), was approached by Beverly Philip, M.D., FASA, ASA Vice President for Scientific Affairs, with a nascent idea – a designation recognizing master anesthesiology educators, co-sponsored by the two societies. Dr. Philip felt that such an award would support the strategic vision of advancing best patient outcomes through innovative anesthesia education and would be intended to provide national-level recognition.
