The landscape of medicine is changing, and there has never been a more important time for physicians to lead in this transformation. Too often, changes are made without physician input, either due to a lack of time or lack of insight into how to help direct change. By the nature of our work, anesthesiologists possess an extensive knowledge of perioperative medicine that is invaluable in structuring new models of care. ASA is unique among medical organizations by providing multiple resources to enrich members with knowledge beyond the clinical realm, such as the PRACTICE MANAGEMENT Conference, Certificate in Business Administration course, the LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE and a recent partnership with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Despite these resources, ASA members identified a need for additional leadership training for anesthesiologists. The genesis of the Executive Physician Leadership Program (EPLP) is a great example of how ASA responded to this need.
