Times of transformation call for great leadership. As the 21st century presents new challenges and questions, Joanne M. Conroy, MD, has solidified herself as a leader in advancing equity in the workplace while fostering patient safety and employee engagement.

Dr. Conroy will give the 2020 Emery A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture on “Vital Signs: Transforming 21st Century Anesthesia Practice.” She will discuss three transformational issues anesthesiologists must embrace: Disruption, Gender Equity, and Patient Safety. Disruption in anesthesiology practice will require close examination of how to work across health systems, embrace technology and determine value and payment. Dr. Conroy said that in consideration of COVID-19, the theme for her lecture is even more timely, as we can expect further disruption over the next year as the virus continues to impact every facet of our society.
