The ASA Patient Safety Editorial Board (APSEB) is pleased to announce the newest version of the course Fundamentals of Patient Safety (FPS), which was made available on the ASA website in September 2021. APSEB was created in 2007 to produce patient safety educational material for members wishing to fulfill patient safety credits, which were newly introduced by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) for maintenance of competency. The first course was Fundamentals of Patient Safety, a 10-hour introduction to the basic concepts of managing critical events as systems failures. The course has been updated several times to improve content, modernize the visuals and audio, and increase the degree of interactive learning.
