When we look back on this time, how will we view the state of anesthesia and medicine? Specifically, will we be referring to the time before artificial intelligence (AI) as the “Golden Years?” Or will we be wondering how we ever got along without it? Other articles in the literature and in this issue of the ASA Monitor will provide deeper explanations of the technological underpinnings of some of these advances. In this article, I will walk readers through some basic AI ideas and applications as they apply to perioperative medicine.
