One of the most significant goals of the Quality Payment Program is to move individuals and their groups away from a fee-for-service model of payment toward participating in Alternative Payment Models (APMs). Although a handful of anesthesiologists have joined an Advanced APM and many more participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program, the majority of anesthesiologists and their groups continue to struggle in finding a path from the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) to an APM.
