The COVID-19 pandemic brought a long list of challenges, including residency interviews and recruitment. Programs were tasked with attracting candidates to their program without the ability to allow candidates to meet any of the faculty or residents face to face or see the facilities in person. Equally challenging and stressful was the fact that candidates were asked to choose their training program and home for the next three to four years under the same circumstances.

These challenges forced us to usher in the technological era faster than we would have otherwise. Programs in the past have dabbled with Zoom or Skype interviews, but none had used that as the sole recruitment format. How could we give candidates a feel for what it was like to be a resident in our program over the phone or internet?
