Advocacy comes in many shapes and forms, and this year I was able to do something very unique. I attended the second annual House Call on the Mall, led by U.S. Rep. and obstetrician-gynecologist Michael Burgess, MD (R -TX) in Washington, D.C. The event brings physicians from multiple specialties and from all over the country to meet, discuss relevant issues, and explore how legislation might positively impact our patients and profession. This was a very eye-opening experience for me because I have attended the ASA LEGISLATIVE CONFERENCE for over a decade, and I have heard about and lobbied for anesthesia-specific issues. At the House Call on the Mall, I realized what my colleagues in surgery, primary care, and subspecialties are seeing in their fields.
