Have you ever asked yourself how you can get involved in global health as an anesthesiologist? Or felt that time and financial constraints were major barriers to doing so? Fret not. Regardless of where you are in your career, there are abundant opportunities for you to make a lasting impact on global health. The staggering reality is that 5 billion people around the world lack access to safe surgery and anesthesia care (Lancet 2015;386:569-624). This does not need to remain the case. Through educational support, curriculum development, and quality and safety initiatives, anesthesiologists from in-training through retirement can help strengthen health systems around the world to provide high-quality care to their patients.
