Much has changed since 2003, when Edwin A. (Ned) Bowe, MD, FACA, proposed the creation of a new continuing medical education (CME) product with a focus on established anesthesia knowledge. Possible names floated for this new program included ALL (Anesthesia Lifelong Learning), CEA (Continuing Education in Anesthesia), and ART (Anesthesia Recertification Training), but the name that was chosen was ACE – Anesthesiology Continuing Education. Now in its 20th year, ACE has become ASA's most highly regarded and best-selling CME program, used year after year by thousands of anesthesiologists.

ACE was the product of Dr. Bowe's determination and hard work. As our first editor-in-chief, Dr. Bowe strived to create a course that would facilitate lifelong learning and help prepare clinical anesthesiologists for the recertification examination that existed at the time.
