The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), located in Omaha, is the only public academic health science center in the state. The Department of Anesthesiology currently has a faculty of 107 anesthesiologists, 43 residents, 19 fellows, and 65 CRNAs. The anesthesiology department is the exclusive provider of anesthesia services for Nebraska Medicine and Children's Hospital and Medical Center.

Joseph Pawlowski, MD, got his start at UNMC after completing a critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He now is an assistant professor specializing in neuroanesthesiology and critical care medicine. Mohanad Shukry, MD, PhD, is a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist who came to UNMC and the Children's Hospital in Omaha 10 years ago as the chief of the pediatric anesthesiology division. He now serves as Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and practices both adult and pediatric anesthesiology at UNMC and Children's.
