The practice of anesthesiology has long invited sports analogies. The name of the specialty's primary delivery model says it all – the Anesthesia Care Team. As fitting as team sports analogies are for what anesthesiologists do every day, they even more aptly describe the daily functions of the society. The ASA staff are accustomed to hearing the term “Team ASA” from leadership. It's not a platitude. It's a top-to-bottom philosophy ingrained in the staff culture. And it's a point of pride.
On January 1, 2024, Brian Reilly became CEO of Team ASA. And though the transition from his former role as Chief Operating Officer (COO) to Chief Executive Officer has been seamless, his selection was the result of an intense, nine-month effort from a uniquely diverse group who put in untold hours of time to find the right leader.
