ANESTHESIOLOGY 2021 is likely to be your first in-person meeting with your colleagues in almost two years. And it will be worth the wait! This is your unique opportunity to connect with thousands of anesthesiology professionals, discover the latest advances in the specialty, learn about innovative technology, and restore and build connections – something we used to take for granted before the COVID-19 pandemic. The best minds in anesthesiology are coming together to create an immersive, global event you won't want to miss.

This will also be a chance to relax, revive, and reconnect. You will literally get a breath of fresh air in San Diego while you engage with your peers in a variety of settings, including the exhibit hall, where you can interact and talk with corporate partners to learn about new innovations to improve patient care, be a part of attendee-wide receptions, and join smaller meet-ups in the Connection Lounges.

The exhibit hall is your hub for daily connections. Join the giants of industry and up-and-coming industry innovators for a vibrant and varied experience:

  • Saturday: Grow your professional network and sample San Diego cuisine while exploring the latest the industry has to offer during the Grand Opening Reception.

  • Sunday: Unwind after an exciting day of education by partaking in hors d'oeuvres and a cocktail while strolling the exhibit hall at the happy hour, a new offering in San Diego.

  • Monday: Take one last opportunity to get the most out of the activities and events in the exhibit hall during lunch while fueling up for the afternoon's education sessions on the last day.

  • Saturday-Monday: Spend time in discussion with your colleagues who motivate and energize you in the new Connection Lounges.

New this year, all attendees are invited to attend the ASA President's Reception! This ticketed event is your chance to connect with ASA leaders and your peers while you enjoy an evening of entertainment, an open bar, and hors d'oeuvres. Alumni receptions are another great opportunity to reminisce and find opportunities for networking and mentorship for residents and fellows. You can catch up with former residents and colleagues and see what they have been up to over the past few years as well as meet new people, make connections, and enhance ongoing relationships.

There will also be plenty of events for residents, fellows, and medical students. “This meeting is an incredible opportunity to further your professional career by interacting with your peers as well as early career physicians; it's important to connect with anesthesiologists from a variety of locales and practice settings,” said Christian Diez, MD, FASA, Chair of the Committee on Residents and Medical Students. Engage with like-minded anesthesiologists, ASA leadership, industry, and annual meeting supporters while enjoying food and drink during the Resident, Fellow, and Medical Student Reception. To ensure you will have ample time to attend the educational sessions designed specifically for trainees to prepare for your future in anesthesiology, the Meet-and-Greet with Residency Programs will be held virtually the weekend before the annual meeting on October 2. This is a great opportunity for third- and fourth-year medical students that cannot be found anywhere else! Program directors and their residents from across the country are ready to showcase their programs and answer your questions. Fellowship office hours will also be held virtually on October 2. Gain insights about anesthesia specialties, individual program specifics, and application processes from the nation's fellowship program representatives.

San Diego offers many outdoor spaces and breathtaking views of the San Diego Bay. The San Diego Convention Center offers outdoor terraces ideal for breaks between sessions and more networking opportunities. Plaza Park is a two-acre, dedicated green space and a unique venue for interacting with your peers. Beaches, museums, attractions, parks, recreation, nightlife, and much more are located near the Convention Center.
