Time constant ratio: the ratio of the time constant in the presence of thiopental relative to the average of pre- and postcontrol. Baseline: values for the responses immediately before thiopental. Nicotine: the ratio of the time constant of the second response relative to the average of the time constants of the first and third responses, derived from the experiments in which nicotine alone was applied repeatedly. Fast and slow: the fast and slow components of double exponential functions fitted to the responses elicited by 100 μm nicotine. Values are mean ± SEM.
