Responses were categorized according to the profession of the individual usually responsible for performing the intraoperative TEE examinations at each respondent’s institution. The use of TEE was significantly more common for valvular surgery (P < 0.0001), coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG;P < 0.0001), and noncardiac surgery (P < 0.0001) when an anesthesiologist was identified as the usual echocardiographer. Data are represented as percentage of respondents and were analyzed using a chi-square or Fisher exact test.
