The graphs show the correlation between the change in peak electrical activity of the diaphragm (EAdi) for each positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) level in comparison with 14 cm H2O (ΔEAdipeak) and the respective changes in auto-PEEP (A) and in auto-EAdi (B). The highly significant correlation suggests that the observed decrease of peak EAdi was largely explained by the decrease of auto-PEEP (and thus of auto-EAdi), offered by the counterbalance of PEEPe.
