Bacteria were grown to exponential phase in L broth, suspended in phosphate-buffered saline with 0.01%(w/v) gelatin, and then inoculated into Intralipid at the indicated temperatures. Initial bacterial concentrations for the representative experiments shown were approximately 103CFU/ml. Intralipid cultures were sampled at various times, diluted, and plated to enumerate CFU/ml.
