Ischemic preconditioning (IPC ) was induced by three times 5 min of ischemia interspersed by 5 min of reperfusion applied 10 min before test ischemia. Isoflurane was administered (for 15 min) 10 min before test ischemia. IPC and anesthetic preconditioning (APC ) were bracketed with chelerythrine, rottlerin, HMR-1098, and 5-hydroxydecanoate. Short-term protocols were used to assess translocation of protein kinase C and the phosphorylation status after the administration of the preconditioning stimulus.
