Spinal prostacyclin synthesis is increased during peripheral inflammation. (A–D) After intraplantar injection of either 20 µl zymosan (10 mg/ml; A and B) or 20 µl Carrageenan (20 mg/ml; C and D), the dorsal horn of spinal segments L4-L5 were dissected at the indicated times and prostanoid levels were determined by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. Levels of the prostacyclin (PGI2) metabolite 6-keto-PGF1α (A and C, n = 5) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2; B and D; n = 5) were determined at the indicated times and compared with those of untreated controls (n = 4 in A and B and n = 5 in C and D).
