Fig. 1. The ultrasound probe should initially be placed on the anterior chest wall along the midclavicular line. If no lung sliding is evident, multiple intercostal spaces should be examined for the presence of lung sliding. Both the right and left hemithoraces should be scanned with ultrasound.
