Correlation between tracheal pressure measured upon intensive care unit admission and the first diaphragm volume measured upon admission (0 day [−3 to 0] before admission) in septic and nonseptic patients. There was a correlation between tracheal pressure (Ptrach) and diaphragm volume (r = 0.43 [0.02–0.72], P = 0.04). Regardless of the diaphragm volume, all but two septic patients had a Ptrach below 11 cm H2O, which is the threshold of diaphragm dysfunction.2
