hMSCs enhance lung repair after VILI. hMSC therapy restored arterial oxygenation (A), increased static lung compliance (B), reduced lung wet:dry weight ratios (C), decreased BAL protein concentrations (D), decreased the proportion of BAL neutrophils (E), and increased the BAL percentage of macrophages (F) 24 h after VILI, compared to either vehicle or fibroblast therapy.
